I know this is an animation (and mostly Avatar) blog and that’s what my followers expect to see but since I have more followers on this blog than in my other one, I thought I’d use it to promote this wonderful brazilian movie called The Way He Looks (the original title is Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho). I suck at writing synopsis, so here’s one I took from Wikipedia:
Leonardo is a blind teenager dealing with an overprotective mother while trying to live a more independent life. To the disappointment of his best friend, Giovana, he plans to go on an exchange program abroad. When Gabriel, a new student in town, arrives at their classroom, new feelings blossom in Leonardo making him question his plans.
The movie was acclaimed by critic and public, winning two awards at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival; the FIPRESCI Prize for best feature film in the Panorama section and the Teddy Award for best LGBT-themed feature, among others.
The Way He Looks was released in April in Brazil, and even though it did considerably well for an alternative and LGBT-themed production, it still can’t be considered a commercial success. Strand Releasing has acquired the North American rights for the movie and although it doesn’t have a release date yet, make sure to watch it when it premieres (if you can and want, of course)! This movie deserves attention. While waiting to see it on theaters, you can buy it for US$ 19.99 or rent it for US$ 4.99 on iTunes. It’s not subbed, but it probably won’t take much time until someone subs it.
The movie was based on a 2010 short film called Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho, which you can watch on YouTube with English subs! There are also subs in French, Spanish, Turkish, Slovak, Russian, Italian, Hungarian, Estonian and Vietnamese. You can also watch the movie trailer with English subs here.
